The day my sourdough starter finally clicked after a rainy weekend

I left my starter, 'Bubbles', on the counter during a really damp weekend in Portland. I usually keep it in the pantry, but I forgot. When I went to feed it Monday morning, it had this amazing, fruity smell and doubled in size in just 4 hours, which it never does that fast. I baked a loaf with it and got the best oven spring I've ever seen. Has anyone else noticed their starter acts totally different with big weather changes?

Are you sure it was the weather and not just a lucky fluke? My starter does weird stuff all the time for no clear reason. Last week it was super active on a dry day, this week it's slow on a humid one. It seems more random than anything. You probably just got the feeding ratio perfect by accident that time. People always want to find a pattern where there isn't one.

Man you might be onto something. My starter went crazy during a heat wave last month, so I blamed the temp. But then it did the same thing on a cool day when I used a different brand of flour. Maybe we're all just trying to make sense of a jar of chaos. It's like a pet that has good and bad days for its own weird reasons.
