Spent $150 on a fancy dough whisk set, my old beat up one works better
Last month I got caught up in one of those baking gear instagram ads, you know the ones with the perfect swirl shots. Bought this 3 piece ergonomic whisk set with silicone grips and all that. After 3 weeks of using them side by side with my $8 dollar store whisk, honestly the cheap one does the same job. The fancy ones are heavier and my hand actually gets more tired. The only thing I like is the little hook on the end for hanging. Told my cousin about it and she laughed, said she did the same thing 2 years ago with a $120 stand mixer attachment kit. I keep going back to the old whisk every single time. Anyone else got fancy gear that just collects dust while the basic stuff wins?

Hmm, you make a fair point about the weight, but I actually gotta disagree with you here. Maybe it's just me, but I've found that the fancy whisk does a way better job on stiff doughs and thick batters. The balance is different, so I'm not gripping as hard, and the wires don't bend out of shape like the cheap ones after a few months. I mean, the $8 whisk works fine for eggs and sauces, but for bread dough or stiff cookie batter, there's a real difference in how fast it comes together. The silicone grip that you don't like? For me, that's the whole selling point, my hands don't slip when it gets messy. I know it feels like a rip-off at first, but if you give it a few more weeks on the heavy stuff, you might change your mind.
