Had an old baker tell me my pie crust was too wet and it stuck with me

I was at a county fair pie contest in Lancaster about 5 years ago. An older baker named Ed looked at my crust and said 'you're adding too much water, that's why it's shrinking.' He was right. I started cutting my water back by about 2 tablespoons and letting the dough rest longer. Made a big difference in how the crust holds up.

Ngl, that's not even that long. My friend Jenna still brings up how a lady at her church potluck told her she put "too much nutmeg" in her pumpkin pie. This was in 2018. She brings it up every Thanksgiving. She'll be like "remember when Betty said my nutmeg was aggressive?" and her husband rolls his eyes so hard. Funny how a random comment from a stranger can just live in your head forever.
