Vent: Why I keep my favorite canyon route off social media now

In my experience, when a trail gets popular online, it loses its charm fast. Your mileage may vary, but I saw a once quiet path get packed with people. From what I saw, litter became a problem near the camping areas. I think it's better to enjoy some spots without sharing them. It just feels more special that way for me.

People actually leave trash in a place like that? That's just hard to wrap my head around. I found a candy wrapper on my last hike and it ruined the whole mood.

Yeah that candy wrapper thing hits home. I always throw an empty grocery bag in my backpack now. If I see trash, I grab it. Once filled a whole bag with beer cans from some group that clearly had a party at the lookout point. It sucks to do their cleanup, but it sucks more to leave it there.
