I always thought the Wind River Range was too hard for me, but my altimeter said something else
I just got back from the Cirque of the Towers loop and my watch logged 34,000 feet of total elevation gain over the week. I was sure I'd be crawling the last few miles, but hitting that number made me realize my legs were way stronger than I gave them credit for. It was the first time I've done a route with that much up and down without feeling totally wrecked. Has anyone else had a trip where the stats surprised them and changed how you plan your next one?

You're right about hard data cutting through the doubt. It turns a feeling of "maybe I got lucky" into a real fact you can build on. That proof is what lets you step up to the next big route without the old fear.

It's funny how the numbers can show you what you already did but didn't believe. I see this with my running app all the time, where I'll finish a route feeling slow, but the pace was actually solid. That hard data cuts through the doubt in your head. It makes you trust your body more than your mood that day. You start planning bigger things because the proof is right there.
