Finally finished a thru-hike after 3 failed attempts

My bootlace snapped on day 2 of the Pacific Crest Trail last summer, and I just sat there on the trail for 10 minutes laughing. I used a random piece of paracord from my pack to fix it, and it held for the whole hike. Anyone else have a piece of gear fail right at the start and somehow make the trip better?

bro hold up you really had a random piece of paracord just sitting in your pack? thats wild because i hiked the AT a couple years ago and my buddy's water filter completely froze solid on day one off the mountain. dude had to drink straight from streams for the first week before he hit a town. turned out he actually loved ditching the extra weight and never filtered again the whole trail. your story gives me the same vibe somehow.
