Switched from cheap multimeters to a Fluke after a bad reading almost grounded a 737

Tbh I used to think any multimeter that reads voltage is fine. Been using a $25 one from Amazon for like 2 years. Then last month I was checking a pitot heat circuit and the thing showed 24v when it was actually 0v. Missed an open breaker. My lead caught it right before I signed off. Ngl that scared me. I bought a Fluke 87V the next day. The price hurt but not as much as a write-up would. Anyone else have a close call with cheap test gear?

Is it really the meter or the calibration you didn't check?

Bad reading almost grounded a 737" reminds me of a buddy who caught a house fire using a cheap meter.
