Shoutout to the leaky valve stem I ignored for $12 that ruined a $200 tire
I kept topping off the same tire every 8 days for two months instead of spending $12 on a new valve stem, and last Saturday in Phoenix it finally let go on the highway. The shop guy showed me the old stem, cracked all the way around, and said he sees it every week. Anyone else guilty of chasing the cheap fix way past the point of being cheap?

The $12 part is what gets me every time. People will drop $80 on an oil change without blinking but then try to squeeze every last mile out of a $15 wiper blade until it's just metal scraping glass. My brother did the same thing with a $20 belt on his truck, kept saying it looked fine, and then it snapped on I-10 and took out a fan and a radiator hose with it. That "cheap" belt turned into a $600 day real quick. Cheap parts never stay cheap, they just wait until the worst possible moment to bill you for the real total.
