Changed my mind on impact wrenches after a stuck caliper bracket almost ruined my Saturday
I always figured a breaker bar and elbow grease was all you needed for brake work, and I turned my nose up at the guys on YouTube reaching for power tools. Last Saturday I spent 45 minutes on a single caliper bracket bolt on my 2011 Civic, soaked it in PB Blaster twice, and still rounded the head with a 12 point socket like an idiot. My neighbor Dave rolled his $99 Harbor Freight impact over, zipped it off in about 4 seconds, and I just stood there feeling dumb. The socket stayed on the flats, the bolt came out clean, and I had both front brakes done by lunch. Anyone else hold out on power tools way too long before something humbled them?
