Showerthought: hit 1,000 oil changes logged on my spreadsheet and it got me thinking about the trade
Ngl I started keeping a little spreadsheet back in 2019 just to track what cars came in and what oil and filter I used, and last Thursday the counter hit 1,000 jobs. Sounds boring but it made me stop and look at the whole thing. The first 200 or so were mostly the same five makes, then around job 400 I started seeing way more small turbos, and now half the sheet is 0W-20 on stuff that used to take 5W-30. What really got me was how many of those 1,000 came back to me later for bigger work just because I wrote the mileage and date on a sticker and stuck it where they could see it. Tbh I think the log helped more than any tool I bought. I can look at a car and know if the last guy used the wrong filter by the part number alone. Curious if anyone else keeps a record like this or if I'm just the weird guy with a spreadsheet.

Doubt the log beats good tools, but tracking patterns is smart for sure.
