That old timer at the paint booth said I was thinning my primer too much

I ignored him for 6 months and kept getting orange peel, finally tried his ratio of 2:1 and it laid down flat. Has anyone else had luck with thicker primer on older cars?

Funny you say that, I used to be the exact same way. Thought thicker primer would just cause more problems, but after fighting orange peel for months I finally tried a 2:1 mix like that old timer told me and it laid down smooth as glass. Guess some of those old school tricks actually have merit.

Thought thicker primer would just cause more problems" - yeah that was me too. I was thinning like crazy trying to fix orange peel and just making it worse. Old timer told me 2:1 primer for my 70s Mustang and I thought he was nuts. But I mixed it thick one day out of desperation and it leveled out perfect. Now I stick to that ratio no matter what.
