TIL that $35 lawn mower sharpening service from a guy on Nextdoor actually did a better job than the $60 one at the Ace Hardware on Moreland Ave.

I was sure he was just some guy with a bench grinder in his garage but my grass is cutting cleaner than it has in 3 years has anyone else found a hidden gem like that in Decatur?

The key thing people miss with those Ace Hardware sharpenings is they're running blades through on a conveyor belt system half the time. A guy working out of his garage actually takes time to check the angle and balance, which makes a huge difference on how the grass cuts. Had a similar experience with a guy off Scott Boulevard who did my push mower blade for fifteen bucks and it still felt like new two seasons later. Sometimes the big box places are just moving too fast to catch a nick or a wobble in the blade.
