My neighbor who runs a cleaning crew told me to stop booking solo maids from apps, now I get why
I was outside Saturday watching my youngest ride her bike when my neighbor Rosa came over. She runs a 6 person cleaning crew that does houses all over the east side and we got to talking because I was stressed about finding someone to clean our place before my in laws visit next month. I told her I usually just grab whoever has the best rating on the apps for like $90 and hope for the best. She laughed and said most of those solo folks disappear in 6 weeks because they can't handle the drive time between Decatur and Smyrna and the apps don't pay enough to cover it. Then she said something that hit me. She said you don't want the cheapest person, you want the one who has been doing your street long enough that other neighbors will call them out if something goes wrong. That part stuck because I never thought about it like that. She gave me the name of a woman named Carla who has done 4 houses on my block for 3 years running. Before I call Carla, has anyone here switched from app bookings to a neighbor referral and regretted it? I am wondering if the price gap is worth it.
Switched to a neighbor referral about two years ago and never went back. My guy charges $40 more per visit than the app folks did, but he shows up every single time and actually knows our house now, like he remembers the dog gate and which bathroom to skip. The app people were nice but it felt like starting over every time, and twice I got no-shows with zero heads up. Paying more stings at first but I stopped losing Saturdays to cleaning, so it evened out.
