Chose the $95 mobile mechanic in Decatur over the $280 dealership, and my wallet is still thanking me
My check engine light popped on two Saturdays ago in my 2014 Corolla, and I had two choices staring me in the face. The dealership over on the north side wanted $280 just to run diagnostics plus whatever they found, and a mobile mechanic out of Decatur quoted me $95 flat to come to my driveway. I went with the mobile guy because I was tired of sitting in waiting rooms for four hours and getting upsold on cabin air filters. He showed up in a beat up Tacoma with a scanner, spent about twenty minutes under the hood, and found a loose gas cap sensor and a dirty mass airflow sensor. He cleaned it, cleared the code, and charged me exactly what he quoted, no games. The dealership would have had my car all day and probably found $600 worth of stuff I did not need. Has anyone else found a mobile mechanic around the metro that actually shows up on time? I got lucky with mine and I want a backup in case he gets too busy.
