Always thought those mobile mechanic guys were sketchy until mine showed up with a Snap-On scanner

My car wouldn't start last Tuesday outside the Varsity and I was stuck. Called a regular shop but they couldn't send a tow for 4 hours. This guy named Marcus pulled up in a beat up Civic but had a pro level scanner that found a bad crank sensor in 10 minutes. He charged me $120 parts and labor compared to the $250 the shop quoted just for diagnostics. I still prefer a real garage for big jobs but I get why people use those guys now.

Pro level scanner in a beat up Civic" sums up like half the tradespeople I've met. My neighbor once hired a guy to fix his water heater who showed up in a minivan with a bumper held on by zip ties, but the dude pulled out a Fluke multimeter and had the pilot light sorted in 15 minutes. I guess sometimes the best tools come from people who spend their money on what matters instead of a fancy truck. Reminds me of that time I got my laptop fixed by a guy working out of his garage, he found a short circuit with a magnifying glass and a soldering iron that cost less than a new motherboard. You just never know.

Plus a beat up toolbox usually means they actually know how to use it.
