Heard a guy at the Marietta Home Depot say he never fixes a running toilet before checking the flapper, and now I feel dumb
I was standing in aisle 12 at the Home Depot off Roswell Road in Marietta last Saturday grabbing a wax ring when I heard this older guy tell a younger couple to always check the flapper chain before buying a whole new fill valve. I laughed to myself because I had just spent $22 on a full rebuild kit for my guest bathroom toilet the week before. Turns out my chain was just too long and getting caught under the flapper, a 30 second fix I completely missed. I have been a homeowner in Smyrna for 6 years and I still get suckered into buying parts I don't need. So I returned the kit, saved the 22 bucks, and used it on a new shutoff valve instead which I actually did need. Anybody else have a cheap fix moment that made them feel silly for going straight to the hardware store?
Did you at least make him feel real good about himself by nodding along like he just handed you the keys to the universe? I swear those old guys at Home Depot just hang around aisle 12 waiting to drop free wisdom on us.
