Figured out last month why my basement always smelled musty after rain
Spent two weekends last spring sealing every crack I could find on the inside of my basement walls in Decatur and the smell still came back after every storm. Last month my neighbor came by while I was at it again and asked why I wasn't checking the gutters. Sure enough, two downspouts were dumping water right against the foundation, and the grading around the whole south side slopes back toward the house. $40 of extensions and a few bags of dirt fixed what $300 in hydraulic cement couldn't. Anybody else chase the wrong fix on a water problem for way too long?
