My neighbor swore the 'golden hour' rule for stacking photos was a must...

Old Mr. Chen from two doors down kept insisting I had to shoot everything during golden hour if I wanted decent stacked astro shots. He said any other time and the noise would ruin it. Well last week I tried layering a sequence I took at midnight out near the county line. Turned out way better than his dawn stuff. Guess he was wrong about timing. Anybody else find that stacking works fine outside that window?

Always thought golden hour was overrated for stacking but never really questioned it until now. Used to plan all my night shoots around sunset like a fool. Then one night I was out past midnight trying to catch some meteor shower and got a stack of maybe 30 frames around 1am. Barely any light pollution, just straight clean data. Ended up with way more detail and less color noise than any of my golden hour attempts. Made me realize Old Mr. Chen probably just never bothered trying different times.

Bet nobody's tried shooting right before dawn in heavy fog.
