Tried giving my oak a root injection of iron and ended up making the whole dang thing turn purple
So I got this big old oak in my backyard here in Portland that's been looking kinda pale and sickly the last couple years. I read online that iron chlorosis is common in our clay soil so I bought a five pound bag of iron sulfate and a cheap root feeder tool. I drilled holes about 12 inches deep all around the drip line, like maybe 15 holes total, and poured the stuff in dry like a dummy. Fast forward three weeks and the leaves started coming in a weird purple-ish blue color, not green at all. My neighbor who's been doing tree work for 30 years walked by and laughed his butt off, said I basically gave the tree an iron overdose. I learned you're supposed to mix it with water and use way less, like maybe a pound total for a tree that size. Has anyone else messed up a soil treatment this bad or am I the only one who turned their oak into a circus tree?
