Reading an old forestry book and found out a single mature oak can drop 10,000 acorns in a good year.
Found that stat in a worn-out manual from the 70s in my grandpa's shed. Makes you think about how much we miss just looking at the ground, right?

Crazy part is how few of those actually grow. Most get eaten or rot. That tree's putting all that energy into a numbers game. Basically a biological lottery ticket every single year.

Oh man, this reminds me of a nature doc I watched! They said some oak trees make like ten thousand acorns in a good year, but only one might ever become a full tree. It's wild how much effort that is for basically no sure payoff. Makes our own failed projects feel a bit less bad, honestly. Nature's just out here playing the odds on a huge scale.

Yeah that "biological lottery ticket" line from @victor_perry90 is perfect. Makes me think of all the bad ideas I've had that just rotted on the ground. My success rate is probably worse than that tree's.
