Choosing to climb a storm-damaged maple without a bucket truck was a mistake

Had the choice to wait for a rental or just spike up and rig it out. I went up, and a hidden crack in a major limb gave way under my weight, nearly dropping me. Anyone else have a close call that made you swear off a specific shortcut?

Sounds like you tried to save a day and almost lost a decade. That's not a shortcut, that's a fast track to the obituary page. I get the urge to just get it done, but trees don't care about your schedule. A hidden crack is the universe's way of telling you to bill for the rental. Glad you're still in one piece to post about it.
