That call from a guy in a high rise downtown who said his dishwasher was 'haunted'
He kept saying it turned on by itself at 3 AM and played a weird chime. I drove over, checked the control board, and found a short from a leak that had dripped onto the timer motor. Has anyone else had a customer blame ghosts for a simple water damage fix?

Got a lady once who swore her fridge light was a ghost signal. She'd leave notes for it. Turned out her grandkid was hiding a flashlight in the vegetable drawer to read comics after bedtime. People see what they want to see. A weird noise in a quiet house at 3 AM will make anyone jump to ghosts, not a bad solenoid valve. It's always just a broken thing, but the story is way more fun.

That fridge story sums up how people fill in gaps with stories instead of facts. We do it with politics, work gossip, even why a friend is late. The boring truth often loses to the more exciting tale we tell ourselves.
