Showerthought: I used the wrong multimeter setting on a dryer and wasted 2 hours chasing a ghost
Had a dryer at a place off I-35 in Waco that kept blowing its thermal fuse. I skipped the ohm check on the heating element and just tested for voltage, got 240 at the terminals, and told the guy the element was fine. Came back two days later, same blown fuse. Turns out the element had a tiny short to the housing that only showed up on the ohms scale, reading around 40 instead of open. Lesson: test the part, not just the power going to it. What's your go to check before you call a heating element good?

Had a fridge do almost the same thing to me, compressor ohmed out fine cold but would short once it warmed up. Sometimes you gotta test the part while it's hot or under load, not just sitting there cold. That 40 ohm reading to the housing is such a sneaky one too.
