Just hit 200 dryer vent cleanings this year and that number surprised me

I was looking over my calendar and realized I've done 200 dryer vent cleanings so far this year. At $120 a pop that's a solid chunk of change for something most people forget exists until their clothes take 3 cycles to dry.

Most people forget exists until their clothes take 3 cycles to dry" - yeah but maybe that's for a good reason? I mean 120 bucks for something that most people never even think about seems kinda steep when you really break it down. A lot of those people probably have perfectly fine vents and you're basically selling them a solution to a problem they never had. Plus dryer vent cleaning is one of those things where it's super hard for the average person to tell if you actually did a good job or just blew some air through it and called it done. Feels like a lot of the demand is driven by people being scared into paying for it rather than it actually being needed every year.

My buddy Mike (the guy who tries to fix everything himself) finally caved and paid a guy $140 to clean his vent after his clothes took two hours to dry. The guy pulled out a solid four pounds of lint and a dead mouse, like a whole skeleton and everything. Mike said it was worth every penny just for the horror show, but he also admitted he probably could've gone another year or two before it actually became a fire hazard. So yeah, I think most people are fine waiting until their clothes get slow before they call anyone.
