Found a cheap trick for stripping old refrigerator compressor wiring

Been fighting with those 30-year-old rubber gaskets on a Frigidaire from 1992 and finally tried heating the wires with a heat gun before pulling them through - took 5 minutes instead of 45. Any of you guys got a go-to method for vintage wiring that doesn't involve cussing?

Heating the wires with a heat gun" is brilliant, I wish I'd thought of that years ago. I had the same fight with an old Kelvinator last summer, those rubber gaskets were like concrete. What finally worked for me was spraying a little bit of WD-40 into the wire channel and letting it sit for ten minutes before pulling. It doesn't mess up the insulation like heat might, but it softens that old hard rubber just enough. I've also used a pick set to gently pry the gasket away from the wire while pulling, that helped a ton on a really stubborn one. You're dead right though, anything beats sitting there yanking and cussing at a 30 year old fridge.
