My friend in Denver said her building's compost bin is always full of plastic bags
She told me she saw three people in one week toss their food scraps in those green produce bags, which totally messes up the city's compost system. It made me realize that even when we have a shared bin, the education part is still missing. Has anyone had luck putting a simple sign up in their building's trash room to explain what goes in?

Ugh, that's so frustrating. I feel for your friend, it's like people just don't get it. @barbaramorgan has the right idea with a picture, because a wall of text gets ignored. Maybe a sign with a clear photo of a plastic bag with a big "NO" over it, right next to a shot of a paper bag or a bowl for scraps.

Oh man, that reminds me of my old apartment! Our building manager taped up a huge, colorful picture right on the bin showing a pizza box next to a big red X. It was super simple, just photos of what's okay and what's not. Honestly, it seemed to help a lot because people could see it without reading a whole paragraph. Maybe something visual like that would work better than just words?
