My first worm bin was a $40 mistake I still think about
I got a fancy plastic tower bin online about five years ago, thinking it would solve everything. It was way too big for my tiny kitchen and the worms kept trying to escape because I didn't get the bedding right. After two months of fruit fly clouds and a sad, soggy mess, I gave up and threw the whole thing out. I felt so guilty about wasting the money and the worms. Now I just use a couple of old plastic buckets with holes drilled in the lid, and it works perfectly. Anyone else have a fancy setup that totally backfired on them?

Ugh, that sounds so familiar... my first one was a pricey layered thing that was impossible to harvest from without making a huge mess. What was the worst part for you, like the specific moment you knew it was a total failure? Was it the escape attempts, or just opening it up to that sour smell and seeing all the dead worms?

The smell hit me before I even opened the lid.
