A soggy mess in my kitchen taught me about compost moisture | Apartment Composting

Excess moisture made my compost smelly and buggy. Now I balance it with dry materials like torn egg cartons.

Notice this same balance thing everywhere - too much of one good thing without the other to balance it out always turns into a problem eventually.

Balancing with dry materials really helped me too. I had a smelly bin until I mixed in dry leaves from my yard. Do you mix in browns as you add kitchen scraps or all at once?

Oh come on, how bad can a little wet compost really be...
