Why does nobody talk about watching anime with the subtitles turned off?
I was trying to get my friend into an action show, but he kept saying he couldn't read the words fast enough. So, for the first episode, I turned the subtitles off completely and just gave him a quick summary of the plot. He actually paid way more attention to the fights and the music, and got hooked! Now he's three seasons in and his reading speed has caught up. Has anyone else tried this to help a new viewer get past the subtitle barrier?

Remember my buddy who refused to try any anime because he hated reading subs. We threw on the first Attack on Titan episode with no subtitles at all. He just watched the crazy gear swinging and the Titans showing up. He got so into the visual chaos and the music that he begged to watch the next one. Now he's the one explaining the plot to ME.
