My local anime club's debate last Thursday got way too heated over filler arcs

We were at the library meeting room, and a guy argued that Naruto filler is essential for world-building, which is just wrong. He got so loud the librarian had to come over. Does anyone actually enjoy watching those drawn-out filler episodes?

The 2006 Naruto filler year had a 40% ratings drop in Japan. That data proves studios know it's just cheap content to buy time.

Yeah I mean you see that everywhere. Companies put out the cheap version first to see what they can get away with.
