My Japan haul made me rethink anime location hunting

Spent a week in Tokyo hitting up spots from shows like Demon Slayer. Half my crew says seeing the real deal makes the anime hit harder, but the other half says it's just for pics and doesn't change the show. I'm stuck in the middle after my trip. What's your view on traveling for anime sights?

Honestly, the trip itself is the real point, not changing the show.

A buddy of mine swore up and down that going to Kyoto to see the bamboo grove from a show would change his life. He spent a whole day there, took maybe fifty pictures, then admitted the actual place was just a bunch of plants and tourists. Said the anime's version was way cooler because it had dramatic lighting and no crowds. Now he just watches the shows at home and lets his imagination do the work. The trip itself was fun, but it didn't make him love the show any more than before.

But does seeing a building really make a show better?
