Wireless contact placement bit me on a retrofit job
Put a recessed sensor too deep into a hollow door frame and the magnet lost signal at 2 inches, had to redo all 8 windows with surface mounts, so what spacing do you guys stick to on metal frames?

Stick with 3/4 inch gap on metal frames, max. Anything more and the reed switch starts acting up. Those recessed sensors are finicky, the magnet has to be almost dead center on the plunger. I learned that the hard way too, had a whole row of doors fail inspection. Found that putting a small shim behind the sensor pushes it forward just enough. Then you can keep the recessed look without the signal loss. Use a cheap plastic washer if you don't have metal shims on hand. Good luck on the redo, surface mounts are way more forgiving anyway.
