Been running wire since 2004 and the shift from 22/4 to all-in-one cables still catches me off guard sometimes

Helped a new guy pull a system last week and he looked at me funny when I asked where the separate power and data runs were going, I guess Honeywell Vista panels really are becoming a relic after watching the 2GIG wireless takeover in this town over the last 8 years, anyone else still holding onto an old can of crimps for the hardwired jobs?

Honestly used to think you guys were just stuck in your ways with the old 22/4 stuff. I was all about the all-in-one cables since I started maybe 5 years ago. But then I had to troubleshoot a mess in a customer's attic where the single cable had a short in the power line and took out the data too. That job made me see why the old dogs still keep a roll of that separate wire around. Ngl, I still grab the combo cables on new installs but now I get why you keep the old stuff handy for those legacy Vista jobs. It's just more reliable when you need to isolate a problem, simple as that.

Man I feel that so hard. I was training a kid last month and he asked why I was running two separate cables to the door sensor and I just stared at him for a second before remembering half the stuff we install now is all wireless or hybrid. Got a box of old 22/4 sitting in the garage from like 2014 that I still grab when I run into an old Vista panel, feels wrong to use anything else.
