Watched a guy torque a Lycoming cylinder base nut dry, then redo it with oil and the wrench clicked 15 degrees sooner
Been saying for 12 years that dry torque on those through bolts is a coin flip on preload, and when we tested it side by side at the hangar in Wichita last month the dry one hit spec at 42 ft-lbs while the oiled one needed 48 to even register the same stretch, so how many of you are actually oiling those threads before you sign the logbook?
