Vent: Old timer told me to stop chasing torque values on control cables and I argued with him for 20 minutes
After fighting a rudder cable for two hours on a Cessna 172 last Tuesday, I finally tried his method of just getting it snug with a smooth pull instead of cranking it to spec, and the tension came out perfect on the first check, so has anyone else had a crusty veteran save them from overthinking a simple job?

Feel you. Sometimes the old way just works and it's humbling as hell.

Nah, that torque wrench is the only thing between your control cables and a lawsuit. Old timers get lucky with feel but spec is spec for a reason - you want to bet your license on a "smooth pull"?
