Unpopular opinion: a check airman told me to stop torqueing by feel and it fixed my leaks
Had a guy named Ray ride along on a 737 wash job last month and he watched me snug up a hydraulic return line by hand like always. He said, "Put a wrench on it, you're not a torque spec." I was annoyed at first but grabbed the manual instead. Turns out the spec was 18 inch pounds and I was probably closer to 10. No drips on the last 6 planes I've done. How do you all keep track of torque values on the line, do you carry a cheat sheet or just look it up every time?
The 18 vs 10 thing is wild because that's how it goes with everything, we all think we're way closer than we are. I do the same thing with measuring cups when I cook. You just look it up every time I guess, the manual is already right there.
