Why does nobody talk about preheating the air fryer for frozen food?
After 4 years of soggy frozen fries, I finally realized my $40 5.8 quart model needs 3 extra minutes of hot air before the basket goes in, and it took my sister visiting from Omaha asking why they looked pale to figure it out, has anyone else been skipping that step this whole time?
The extra time helps but its not really about preheating the machine itself. Most air fryers dont have a real preheat setting, they just run the timer while the coil heats up. What actually matters is getting that coil hot before food goes in, so the first few minutes hit hard instead of slowly warming. I toss mine on for 3 minutes empty, then pull the basket and add fries. Otherwise they steam in their own ice melt and never crisp. Your sister was right to ask.
