My neighbor swore by cooking bacon at 400 degrees for 12 minutes

She said it would be perfect every time, but mine came out burnt and smoking up my kitchen in Portland. I found that dropping it to 350 for about 8 minutes gives me the crispy but not burnt result I wanted. Has anyone else had to adjust a 'foolproof' air fryer tip they were given?

Yeah, bacon thickness makes a huge difference (the thin stuff cooks so fast). My air fryer also runs a little hot, so I always set it 25 degrees lower than any recipe says for the first try.

Honestly, the thin bacon is such a trap because it goes from perfect to burnt ash in like 30 seconds. I've totally learned that lesson the hard way. Your point about air fryers running hot is so true, they all seem to have their own personality. I do the same thing and start lower, because once that smoke alarm goes off there's no going back. It's all about knowing your own machine.
