inA wrong wire connection once fried a comms unit. Now, double-checking is second nature.
Absolutely, that's spot on. One time I forgot to save my work and lost hours of progress, now I save every five minutes without thinking. It's crazy how pain teaches us better than any tip or trick. Why do we only learn the hard way, you know? My brain just won't listen until it gets burned.

inMy early coding days were all about library books and trial-and-error
You mentioned missing that "deep learning" from the struggle, but I see it totally different. Having answers easy to find now means people can learn way faster and get to the actually hard stuff sooner. Getting stuck for hours on a simple syntax error didn't make me a better thinker, it just wasted my time. The goal is to build things, not to prove you can suffer through a bug.

inPSA: A tiny static shock ruined a GPU and my rep. Are anti-static steps worth it?
Funny enough, I used to skip static protection all the time. Thought it was unnecessary for quick fixes. Then a small shock killed a hard drive for me. That incident made me change my mind completely. Now I always use a wrist strap, even for RAM upgrades. Your story is a perfect example of why it's worth the extra minute.
