Switching to a surface buoyancy check changed my dive game

Last season, I got lazy with my pre-dive routine and had a bad scare when I rose up too fast from depth. That moment pushed me to start testing my buoyancy on the surface every time I get in the water. Now, I always take a minute to check my weight belt and BCD vents while I float before going down. This simple habit has made my descents way more steady and my work below less shaky. I use less air because I'm not correcting my position all the time, and I finish dives feeling less worn out.
