Why does nobody talk about how loud a garage door opener is after a weekend of quiet projects?

I spent Saturday rebuilding a little workbench in my garage in Asheville, NC, and when I finished, I hit the button to close the door. It sounded like a freight train hitting a dumpster. My neighbor across the fence, Rick, even shouted over asking if my opener was about to die. I checked the chain tension and rails, everything seems fine, but now I can't unhear it.
