Tried DOSBox for the first time, ended up hating my old favorite
I spent years avoiding DOSBox because I thought it was too technical and I was sure my old copy of Betrayal at Krondor would never run right. Last weekend I finally followed a step by step guide from a random comment on this forum, and after about 40 minutes of tweaking the cycles and sound settings, it booted up perfectly. But then something weird happened, I played for an hour and realized the game was way clunkier than I remembered. The controls felt stiff, the save system was a pain, and the story was still good but not enough to carry all that frustration. I learned that nostalgia can really trick you into thinking a game was better than it is. Has anyone else gone back to a favorite and found it just doesnt hold up anymore, or do you push through for the memories?
