A flyer I made last month changed how I use design inspo

I always took ideas from online pics for my projects and thought it was okay. Last month, I designed a flyer for a school event. I used a color combo and font style from a poster I saw on a blog. When I shared my work, someone told me it looked just like that blog poster. I checked and they were right, it was too close. Now I feel bad because I might have taken someone's hard work. I make sure to look at lots of sources and mix them up. It's a gray area, but I try to be more careful now.

Pinching ideas from the web seemed harmless enough. Your flyer story has me rethinking that. It's a slippery slope from borrowing to stealing. Now I make myself mix parts from a few places before I'm done. A near miss like yours can be a better lesson than any tip online.

Look, everything's a remix anyway. @patcoleman is being too careful, sometimes you just vibe with a style and run with it. Why hide the inspiration instead of just being open about what you love?
