Restoring an old bank's glass front was a community highlight

I've noticed more towns wanting to keep their historic storefronts looking sharp. We just finished a job on a 1920s bank, and the glass was SUPER fragile. Sourcing the right kind of pane took some real digging, but we found it. The whole street came out to see it go in, and they loved it. Felt AMAZING to be part of that.

The whole street came out to see it go in" is the part that gets me. No pressure at all, just the entire neighborhood watching you handle the world's most fragile piece of glass. Hope nobody sneezed. That's a better turnout than most things get around here, honestly. Bet you were sweating more from the audience than the actual work.

That glass is actually tempered safety glass. I installed some last year and you'd have to try pretty hard to break it on purpose.

Heard about a buddy who had to replace a single stained glass panel in a church window. The whole congregation showed up to watch, like a silent vigil. He said his hands shook so bad he almost dropped the putty knife. They all held their breath until the last piece of leading was soldered. Got a standing ovation when he climbed down the ladder. Never seen him so pale.
