I finally realized why so many DIYers in my town keep cracking their own tempered glass during install.
They're using standard glass suction cups on a 36-inch shower door panel, not the proper low-pressure cups designed for safety glass, which my supplier in Phoenix confirmed after the third call this month about a 'defective' batch.

My neighbor installed his own shower door last year with regular cups and it was fine. That supplier might just be covering for a bad run of glass. Seems like a small detail to cause that many problems.

Totally get where you're coming from. My cousin had a door shatter just from the house settling a tiny bit. The installer told him the wrong cups let the glass twist under pressure. It's crazy how one cheap part can ruin the whole thing.
