Actually depends on the rocks, some have really sharp edges. Rowan_bell might be onto something with the hand pain thing, but honestly the bigger issue is lugging a heavy bag of them back to the car. Feathers are definitely the lighter option, but good luck finding any that aren't totally wrecked by weather.
