Warning: A client in Tacoma told me my lacquer looked 'plasticky' and it stung.

They said it lacked depth, so I switched to a 2lb cut shellac for the base and now I get way more compliments. Anyone else get a critique that made you totally change a go-to finish?

Yeah, that's a solid critique to get. Lacquer can look like a perfect film on top of the wood instead of something that's part of it. Shellac just sinks in differently and shows the grain better. Makes you wonder what other old school finishes we're sleeping on, right?

Ever try mixing your own oil finish? @mark_miller I messed with linseed and beeswax once and it gave this crazy deep look, way better than stuff from a can.
