My uncle told me to use mayonnaise on a water ring stain

He swore it worked on his old oak table, so I tried it on a client's mahogany sideboard. Left it on for an hour like he said, and it just made a greasy, smelly mess I had to strip off. Ended up using a real oxalic acid mix to fix it properly. Has anyone else gotten some truly wild home remedy advice from family?

My cousin once insisted toothpaste could polish out a deep scratch on my car's paint. It just left a minty, gritty paste that took forever to clean off. Had to explain that one to the detailer later. What is it with food products being the go-to fix for everything?

Used to think mayo was the best fix for water stains on wood. Tried it on a table and just made a greasy mess that smelled weird. Now I stick to actual polish, what's the weirdest home fix you've seen work?
