Talking to a neighbor changed my mind about giving away old paint.

He told me, 'Someone will always need a half-can of beige for a touch-up,' and after seeing three people happily take mine last month, I think he's right.

Ugh, I have to be the one to say it. Old paint is a huge hassle and often just trash in disguise. That half-can is probably lumpy or the wrong sheen, and now someone has to store it forever. Most people just buy a new quart for a perfect match instead of trusting some mystery mix from years ago. You're really just passing your clutter problem to someone else.

Old paint can be a goldmine for community art projects or theater sets. Schools and local theater groups often need cheap materials for backdrops or set pieces where perfect color matching doesn't matter. My friend volunteers at a community center that uses donated paint for kids' mural walls. It keeps usable stuff out of the landfill and supports local creativity. The trick is finding those groups instead of just putting it on a curb.
