Pro tip: that free 'vintage' dresser I got last month cost me $75 in gas and a new tire.

I drove all the way to the other side of town for a solid wood dresser listed as free. It was huge and heavy, so I had to rent a small trailer for $40. On the way home, I hit a pothole and got a flat, which was another $35 to fix. The dresser turned out to have a drawer full of old, chewed-up dog toys. Anyone else have a 'free' find that ended up costing more than expected?

Sounds like a cheap lesson to me.

That depends on what you're learning. A hundred dollar mistake that teaches you to check contracts can save you thousands later. Cheap lessons often come from ignoring small problems until they get big.
